In recent years, the term 3D printing has gradually moved into people's life and work from unfamiliar to familiar. However, there are still many people who don't know much about 3D printing. Let's introduce what 3D printing is.

3D printing is no mystery: it's just a new kind of manufacturing and processing technology.

3D printing technology appeared in the late 1980s and early 1990s (also known as rapid prototyping technology), which is less than 30 years. 3D printing is also called additive manufacturing process because it is made by stacking materials layer by layer. The principle is very simple: Based on 3D digital model file, using powder metal or plastic and other bindable materials, through layer by layer printing to construct objects.

In terms of image, ordinary printers output 2D images or graphic digital files to paper through ink; 3D printers output real raw materials (such as metals, ceramics, plastics, sand, etc.) into a thin layer (with a certain thickness in Physics), and then repeatedly stack them up, and finally become space objects. Therefore, 3D printing is similar to inkjet printing when outputting a certain layer. Just like building a house, it is accumulated by brick by brick, while 3D printed objects are accumulated by grains of raw materials.

The technology has applications in jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, geographic information systems, civil engineering, guns and other fields.
